Remember Hearing Your Parents Say, “And You Will…” Do Parents Still Say That?

Remember back to when it was dinner time, mom put the heaping pile of bad carbohydrates on your plate with an added vegetable of the day and when you were full, it just didn't matter. Why? Because regardless of what heaping mound of daily nourishment mom decided to plop on your plate, dad would say, "And you will finish it all". Geesh. Can I take my very own portion next time? This went on night after night, year after year and people wonder why they cant stop eating large portions or stop when they're full They're conditioned to be afraid that they may hear dad pipe in and make you eat it all. Thus an entire life, or at a minimum years, of finding a Diet Program that would once and for all figure out the issue of being a vacuum cleaner at dinner time.

The best thing I ever did for my boy was each and every time he said that he was full, I might first ask, Are you sure and when the answer was yes, he might be excused from the table. Mind you, I didn't pile on a man sized helping for a 6 or seven year old but gave him what would be considered reasonable and balanced. If our parents only knew how we'd be so adversely conditioned and influenced by their approach they most likely would have taken another approach and realize not to persuade feed simply because food is so expensive and there are people starving in this world. In my inner voice, every time I heard that reasoning, I would say, Then send them this, I sure do not need it.

I do have to remind myself that they did their best and were good people, like almost all of the parents that had this same approach to dinner and eating techniques nonetheless , it wasn't good. What surprises me a lot is how adults that remember those dinners and having to eat it all do it with their children. Are you mad? Do you think just because your mum and dad did it that what they did was right? I had a friend of mine say, Well, it didn't hurt us. Our elders were firm but I turned out okay. In the meantime she is 50 pounds chunky, has raised blood pressure, hates they way she looks, wont ever go in my pool and is doing the same to her children. Its just all so blindly insane and ridiculous. Come on folks, awaken to the truth and have a look at whats happening. Eating has become a damn hobby in America and we even have television shows where a guy travels to places round the country to find the most important sized servings possible to determine if he will eat it all. Truly? Is that what we were meant to turn out to be? To go out to eat and not even target the quality of the food but how much they give you?

All I am able to say is every time I hear that voice from past times say, "And you'll eat it all", I reply back, "Not this time, pop, not this time and not anymore". And if he would have liked to economize and not have waste, mom should have cooked less and saved it for another meal. I adore my parents but now I'm the parent who is making better suggestions for my children to be healthy and happier than those nights I sat and ate cold vegetables and piles of mashed potatoes.
